Made it to the D2D! A beautiful day in the Yukon! By 10 am , the temps were pushing 70 degrees F and the sun was shining! Warmest day since passing into Canada. Really a great ride from Carmacks to Dawson City – Relaxing 6 hr ride for a change. cruised along and enjoyed the warmth – no rain – great road.
Speaking of the road – for those riders out there – very rough surface. Tires that last 8,000-10,000 miles in the US only make it 5,000 – 6,000 up here. In fact, the tires that I just put on before leaving are pretty well shot – need new ones in Anchorage before leaving for home. This picture is a not so close-up of the road surface. This, combined with a heavily loaded bike do a number on the tires. Anyway, needed to change the tires for the off-road portion of the ride – see below…
Took time to smell, or should I say photograph the flowers today. It is hard to visualize the wide open and sometimes barren landscape peppered with bunches of colorful wild flowers. I took a bunch of pictures of the various flowers I saw – might be able to go back and identify them as time permits. Unfortunately, while crawling around taking pictures, my cell phone must have dropped out of my pocket – somewhere in the Yukon… The most expensive day of the trip so far. Anyway, here are some pictures:
All of these shots were taken within a couple of hundred yards of each other.
Enough flowers, I also ran into this guy while crawling in the bushes.
FInally, when I got to Dawson City, some new knobby tires were waiting for me – needed to tackle the dirt/gravel of the Haul Rd to Prudhoe Bay on Sunday. Rides much differently now. Have to get out on the trail a bit to get used to it.

Ted’s got a new pair of shoes…….break ‘em in easy!! Be careful out there.
